How verification works

The Verified by Tafuta badge tells customers a real, reachable business stands behind a listing. Here's exactly what it takes to earn it.

The four steps

  1. Verify your phone number

We text a 6-digit code to the phone number on the listing to confirm someone reachable is behind it.

  2. Confirm your email

We email a confirmation link, valid for 24 hours, to the address on the listing.

  3. Upload a supporting document

At least one proof of registration, such as a Certificate of Registration, Trading Licence, TIN, Local Government Trading Permit, Business Permit, NGO Registration Certificate or Professional Licence (PDF, JPG or PNG, up to 5 MB).

  4. Manual review

A member of the Tafuta verification team checks your submission. If it all stands up, your listing gets the Verified badge. If not, we tell you why so you can fix it.

Verification is done by people, not automatically. We don’t yet check against government registries, because reliable registry data isn’t available.

Claiming an existing listing

Many businesses are already listed on Tafuta without an owner. If one of them is yours, find it, choose “Claim this business” and give us your name, phone number and email. A claim goes through the same four steps above. Once approved, you can edit your listing’s details, hours and contact information yourself.

You’ll need a Business account to claim a listing.

What happens to your documents

Documents you upload are used only for verification and are visible only to you and the Tafuta verification team. They are never shown on your public profile.
